How to Build a Dry Stone Wall

February 28, 2018 @ 1:27 am

$80

In this six hour, hands-on workshop, your class will build a dry (without concrete) stone wall. As you can imagine, it’s all about proper foundation preparation, stone choice, wall “lean” and stone placement.  We’ll start with a short theory session and then go outside to build a 500 x 8000 wall: the foundation, the structure for the walls’ incline, and proper stone placement.  We are limiting enrolment to only 8, so you’ll be able to complete about a meter and go home able to confidently design and implement your own dry stone wall.

Your teacher is Gisella Warmenhoven, a trained landscaper from an area in Germany where dry stone walls traditionally supported the vineyards and gardens.  Gisella is also a Feldenkrais Method and Alexander Technique practitioner and can show you proper technique for lifting and moving stones and other garden activities.  See Pain Free Gardening.

Details: Bring your lunch, tea and coffee will be provided.  Dress for a day outside including steel toe footwear, gloves and sun protection.  Upon registration, we’ll send you an email with suggested hand tools to bring.  If weather is too wet, you’ll receive an email the day before. The rain off alternate day is Saturday 7 April.
